Holidays in Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador has 6 paid public holidays. If you qualify, you get a day's pay. Working on the holiday pays double time.
The holidays
New Year's Day: January 1
Good Friday
Memorial Day: July 1
Labour Day: first Monday in September
Remembrance Day: November 11
Christmas Day: December 25
Who qualifies
You must have been employed for 30 days. Paycheq checks that from your start date. The day card in Week asks: did you work your last scheduled shift before the holiday and your first scheduled shift after it, or have a reasonable cause or your employer's OK to miss one?
How much
A day's pay, from your average daily wages over the 3 weeks before the holiday.
If you work on the holiday
You're paid double time for the hours you work, in place of holiday pay. Or, at your choice, your regular rate plus a paid day off within 30 days, or an extra paid vacation day. On the day screen, choose Premium pay or Day off later.
If it's your day off
Your employer gives you another day off with pay. Paycheq counts the holiday pay on the holiday itself.
