Shift premiums and on-call pay

Premiums are dollar amounts added to your pay, such as $2 an hour for nights or $25 for an on-call shift. Add them as contract rules.

Adding a premium

  1. Open Jobs, tap your job, then Contract rules.

  2. Tap Add a rule and choose one:

    • Night or evening premium: per hour, between set times.

    • On-call premium: per shift, for shifts you mark as on call.

  1. Under Paid, choose Per hour or Per shift, and enter the Amount.

  2. Set when it applies under Applies when, such as Only between certain times, certain Days, or Shifts such as On call.

  3. Tap Add, then Save on the job.

Marking a shift as on call

When your contract has a rule for on-call shifts, an On call switch appears:

  • On the Clock card, under shift options, while you're clocked in.

  • In the shift, under Details, when you enter or edit it.

How premiums are paid

  • Premiums are added on top of your hourly pay, whatever your rules say about overlapping rates.

  • A per-hour premium is paid for each hour inside its window. A per-shift premium is paid once per shift.

  • Premiums are part of your gross pay, so they're taxed with the rest.

  • They show on the day and the Pay screen as Premiums.

Good to know

  • For a premium that's a multiplier, such as nights at 1.15×, use a day rate or time window rule instead.

  • Estimates only. Not legal advice. Check your collective agreement.
